Assistant Legal Counsel
Job purpose and key deliverables
Lead the Corporate & Compliance counselling for BAT Korea.
Safeguard the company’s legitimate business rights to pursue commercial objectives within the market.
Maximize the interests of the company in legal and regulatory matters.
Rendition of value-added legal consultancy
Provide sound, timely, and practical legal services to all relevant internal stakeholders with a view to support all business initiatives.
Recurring legal services include:
Rendering legal opinions, recommendations and solutions on all corporate and compliance matters.
Rendering opinions and solutions on competitor dynamics and conflicts in a highly oligopolized industry.
Reviewing and processing all types of contracts and legally important documents.
Provide robust legal risk assessment and advice to ensure decisions are made based on balancing commercial benefits versus risk assessments.
In collaboration with external legal counsel, the job holder will formulate an objective of a case and shape the direction of a case in order to effectively manage all litigations to best safeguard the rights and interests of the company.
Management of external legal counsel
The job holder will be responsible for optimal utilization of external legal resources by effectively managing the company’s external legal counsel within the planned budget.
Securing a level playing field by engaging competitors
By engaging competitors, the job holder will effectively and timely respond to unfair trade practices perpetrated by competitors in order to contain and minimize business impacts.

ii. Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

will possess the following skills, qualification and experiences:
Currently in-house or in private practice with p
rofessional legal qualifications
with a license to practice law in Korea or in English common-law jurisdictions where primary language of business and profession is English e.g. – US, Canada, UK, Australia, etc.
Ideally a minimum of 0-3 years in PQE (post qualified experience) – with some years of experiences advising or working for international FMCGs.
Possession of strong business and commercial sensibility to render strategic legal decisions and solutions.
Strong trait of leadership skills to allow further advancement within the Group.
Fluent in written and spoken Korean and English.
Strong reasoning power to reach logical and rational decisions.
