Finance Controller Sudan
Job purpose and key deliverables
British American Tobacco currently has an exciting new opportunity for a Finance Controller, to be based in our Sudan, Khartoum branch on a permanent basis.
Purpose of the role:
To play a lead role in developing and delivering functional/business strategy and provide high quality financial support through the management of the Corporate Finance function for Sudan including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payables, Treasury, Taxation Management, Management Reporting, Corporate Planning and Risk Management.
To proactively challenge the business processes in place in Sudan and seek out improvements that would benefit the short and long term profitability of the business. To actively participate in project teams set up in Sudan, bringing the necessary financial skills and commercial focus to further the projects as they may arise.
The finance controller will need to have the following Principal Accountabilities.
Control and ensure delivery of accurate financial information (Budgets, Forecasts and Actual results), in line with group accounting principles. Utilize key insights to identify and assess strategic proposals and to direct informed business decisions.
Ensure the statutory accounts preparation and completion process in line with governance and reporting calendar. Manage any issues that exist, or escalate as appropriate, for the external reporting of information.
If required; identify and initiate appropriate corrective action to prevent or address significant accounting issues
Oversee the preparation of cash flow forecasts for BAT Sudan ensuring accuracy of information and that forecasts are based on sound commercials assumptions.
Manage, as appropriate, all aspects of local financial environment, including cost center control.
Ensure BAT Sudan’s compliance with local laws and regulations (including tax, excise, and external regulatory reporting)
Ensure compliance with global procedures and policies and develops the necessary plans and actions to meet compliance objectives, including sanctions related issues
Play a leading a role in all aspects of risk framework and control environment, leading cross functional teams dealing with control navigator initiatives and risk
Initiate and drive efficiency improvements, based on best practice and in line with group policies and standards.
Provide financial and commercial support to HR, IT, and LEX and support all internal stakeholders as required
Act as escalation point for local team with FSSC to ensure delivery of information is on-time in full (OTIF), and all issues are resolved
Support the Head of Finance, as appropriate, with all ad-hoc requirements, including but not limited to strategy, internal financial communication and delivery against key priorities. The Finance Controller will be expected to step-up to the role of acting Head of Finance during periods when the Head of Finance is not available or is on leave.
To provide leadership for Sudan finance team. Manage the teams responsible for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payables, Treasury Management, Statutory and Management Reporting, Corporate Planning and Risk Management.
Manage all aspects related to external audit within the job holder’s responsibility
Degree educated with professional accountancy qualification (CA/ACCA/CIMA/CPA/CMA).
Minimum of 8 of experience in a global FMCG or similar dynamic operating environment
Strong people management skills, both those under direct and indirect control.
Strong understanding of ERP system(s).
A thorough understanding and knowledge of relevant finance tools and systems, specifically BI / BPC
Excellent analytical skills
A good understanding of other functional areas, e.g. operations and marketing would be an advantage
Excellent communication skills and a catalyst of change. Proactive, persuasive and creative as the job holder will be introducing new systems and processes.
