Senior Engineer - Discovery
Job purpose and key deliverables
The tobacco category is changing rapidly. There is an opportunity to help define and shape the future of the industry working in a highly energetic and influential team of innovators and product developers specifically focussed on next generation and breakthrough product concepts.
Working alongside the Research & Development, Commercial and Marketing communities, the ideal candidate will work with a team of technologists, product developers and engineers to identify and develop early stage ideas and concepts into products and prototypes, helping to push BAT forward as the global leader in the Next Generation Product (NGP) category.
The role will be based in Southampton, England at the company’s Global R&D Centre with regular travel within the UK and occasional overseas travel.
To lead the early stage device development activities in NGP Discovery and be responsible for the set-up and ongoing assigned projects and workstreams in early stages of product development.
Coordinate internal and external stakeholders in alignment with the peers and senior managers within NGP Discovery, NGP Product Development and other R&D functions and operations.
Manage and provide in-depth relevant technical guidance to a group of up to four engineers/designers/developers.
Act and be seen as the subject matter expert on new devices development activities.
Work closely with the Discovery and Product Development managers to implement and plan the development strategy of future NGP.
Through coaching and guidance, ensure the provision of continuous professional improvement and support the development of a strong talent pipeline in NGP.
Ensure accurate budget management and tracking for development activities within the assigned responsibilities/projects in the team.
Science, Engineering degree, or equivalent experience in Product Development.
A minimum of five years’ experience in managing product development projects.
Detailed and contemporary knowledge and extensive experience of design and evaluation of consumer electronics device hardware or software.
Demonstrated experience of managing activities in a rapid prototyping team.
Ability to manage a portfolio of projects.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to influence key senior level stakeholders.
Base salary from £55 000 to £70 000 per year, depending of relevant experience
Bonus target 20% of annual base salary
