Senior System Architect – Tobacco Heating Products

To lead the electro-mechanical definition, development, and delivery of system level solutions, consisting of multiple interconnected components, from different engineering disciplines, into tobacco heating products for the NGP Device Development team, towards the development and delivery of high potential inhalable non-combustible tobacco products. This is done through translation of the commercial needs for the product into an effective technological brief that is then delivered with the support of internal and external resources.
The role is responsible for the delivery of an assigned portfolio of work streams and activities within the NGP product development plan which requires the coordination of internal and external stakeholders in alignment with the Product Development Managers (THP) and Quality and Manufacturing Manager (SC) to support delivery of the commercial vision for the products.
System Design Specification – work with necessary stakeholders and prepare system requirements specification including hardware and software
System Functional and Physical Architecture development: propose new and different methods and processes to achieve product performance
Lead cross-functional technical and design reviews on the products
Product Verification and Validation – design and develop system integration plan and tests
Lead System Integration and test (EVT & DVT)
Promote Provide in-depth, relevant technical guidance to GR&D and the THP LT on tobacco heating product and technology developments to ensure that they have the appropriate level of support within the function
Promote and integrate ways of working within the development team
Work closely with the Principal Product Development Manager to implement and plan the development strategy of future NGP generations
Through coaching, guidance and ensuring the provision of continuous professional improvement, support the development of a strong talent pipeline in THP and NGP (R&D)
Drive the assigned development activities (New Products or Product Modifications etc.) based on an agreed plan to include consumer preferences, NGP strategy, and regulatory compliance requirements through the application of robust project methodology and sound technical and scientific methods
Evaluate multiple system design concepts and maintain balance between the product and its components to arrive at a harmonized solution that meets the product requirements
Assist Product Development Manager with project schedule development and milestone definition
Investigate new technologies and stay current on new product developments in NGP markets
Provide operations and sourcing with documentation and process development assistance to produce the product as developed
Responsible for product documentation from initial proposals through first production release
Assist with production and field failure analysis as required
Lead the regulatory compliance for the assigned responsibilities of the Products within the THP portfolio
Function as a core member of the devices development forum
Assist with safety certification testing and country specific homologation
Develop solid Intellectual Property (IP) to best protect the product.
Liaise with cross category architecture teams to maintain alignment with the specified programs, as well as electrical and physical architecture.
Working with our internal teams and / or development partners, create functional designs, demonstrating how the system satisfies the defined customer requirements
Support the development and implementation of industrialisation plans so that the costs and resources required to commercialise products are clear and can considered as part of the business decision to launch
Develop devices based on a clear scientific understanding of the base technology and its potential to support positive consumer experiences whilst ensuring that they are ultimately scalable and address commercial requirements.
Ensure accurate budget management and tracking for development activities within the assigned responsibilities/projects in the team
Escalate risks and issues in a timely and appropriate manor
Responsible for providing effective leadership and coaching to the junior level System Architects within the team -
Manage projects in accordance with appropriate project management practices (PRINCE 2) and in line with THP and GR&D requirements.

Skills and Experience:
BSc/BEng (ideally Masters) in Electro-Mechanical, Mechanical or Electrical engineering field, or equivalent experience
Strong experience in consumer product development
Previous product development experience in a related field
Previous experience in Requirements creation and / or product verification testing
Previous experience working as a member of a development team
Previous experience launching an electronic product into mass produced manufacturing
Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software design methods, mass produced product development and debug tools
Knowledge and understanding of product development processes and international safety standards for consumer electronics products
MS Project, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
Fluent in CAD software packages such as Solid works or Altium
Planning and implementation skills
Ability to manage a portfolio of projects
Knowledge in consumer-product insights and product research
Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to influence key stakeholders up to senior level
