Job purpose and key deliverables
British American Tobacco currently has an exciting new opportunity for an Production Manager, to be based in our Madani factory on a permanent basis.
To drive world class manufacturing practices, Six Sigma and the application of Supply Chain Operations Reference (
) model to improve the business by eliminating wasteful activities, reducing variation and optimizing system performance.
The Factory Manager will need to have the following Principal Accountabilities.
Accountable for all project related KPI’s mainly Product costs, Manufacturing costs, product quality, productivity, tobacco and
waste and inventories on leaf,
and Finished Goods.
Design and develop processes in Operations that ensure reliable, efficient and transparent planning, procurement, production and logistics and provide excellent customer service to all end markets.
Responsible for the production of all project plans and documentation in accordance with corporate standards, including regular reporting to the Project Board.
Optimises/improves systems and work processes to drive quality, productivity and/or growth.
Participate in global/regional projects and report back into the region
Preparing and maintaining the Project Plan (or Project Execution Plan), Stage and Exception Plans as required
Coordinate Project Implementation Review (
) to capture business benefits and ensure recommendations are not lost.
Participate fully in developing & driving initiatives necessary to achieve overall business objectives.
Maintain team alignment to British American Tobacco core values, business principles and vision
Drive global initiatives as far as they impact the processes in the factory
Ensure complexity reduction in processes, materials and specifications
Drive initiative to implement manufacturing optimizations through increasing utilization of equipment, personnel and services.
Improve the control environment in line with Demand Chain expectations.
Ensure that specific performance goals (KPIs) are established, tracked, met and evaluated in an on-going process in terms of: Productivity, Quality ,Costs (inventory, budget, waste), Machines Maintenance and ensure that all-relevant safety and environmental procedures are followed in line with BAT EH & S procedures and best practice guidelines.
Designing and applying an appropriate project management framework for the project (using relevant project standards) incorporating the Gateway review process
Reporting through agreed reporting lines on project progress through Highlight Reports and stage assessments
To provide guidance and consultancy to projects and programmes, including active support in the preparation of terms of reference and project initiation documents, the setting-up of projects’ internal management systems, and in the undertaking of feasibility studies.
Liaise with users, contractors, suppliers and consultants, developing user requirements and contributing to tender process.
Contribute to the development of the Company plan (including projects) for the Operations Function and deliver results on budget, generate cost savings, investment, and headcount and reduce complexity.
Develop effective working relationship with the
Manager, Demand Manager, Supply planning manager, Quality Manager, Technical Services Manager.
Shares key information/ideas and learning’s within and across teams.
Working closely with users to ensure the project meets business needs.
Builds effective networks and work with subject matter experts to refine the business requirements
Maintain close working relationships with all functions within BAT and other OPCOs where appropriate.
Cooperate with the production departments in order to find ways for improvement of processes and performance.
Promote team working between departments, recognition of employees and create a continuous improvement mentality in operations.
Identify process improvement opportunities as well as research solutions and define technical modifications to existing processes.
Review existing processes and procedures recommending any changes that may be required to improve the workings of British American Tobacco.
Promote benchmarking, Bull’s eye best practices, Six Sigma,
and lean manufacturing
Support the implementation and maintenance of an Idea Management System
Achieving good results on all Manufacturing related KPI’s mainly costs, quality, and inventories avoiding any out of stock situation in the market.
Creating cost savings opportunities managing headcount in the Function according to the needs and contributing to the company’s profit.
Creating solid company plans and delivering against these
Creating transparent and effective processes in all areas in Operations which ensure efficiency and quality in execution.
Creating a flexible and agile Supply Chain which is fast in response and customer oriented.
Function wide communication of main business information.
Best practices are implemented.
Cross functional and regional projects are driven with success.
Establish a strong management team in Operations with a healthy succession pipeline.
Apply quality management principles and process
Minimum of 5-8 years in Manufacturing or Supply Chain.
Very good people management skills (extensive history and good reputation in manage others) as well as strategic leadership skills
PRINCE 2 project management qualification and excellent project management skills.
In depth knowledge of all production processes in the factory
Preferably a technical or engineering background with a wide variety of experience in the tobacco Industry with excellent working knowledge of manufacturing issues and solutions.
Good understanding of financials regarding implications on product costs, budget and investments
Very good analytical skills
Good knowledge in Supply Chain and the processes and structures involved
Preferably knowledge in various areas of Operations in different countries
Very good communication skills addressing all levels of the organization
Good business understanding having knowledge of companywide processes
Consistent management and leadership behaviour
